President Jack Hirsch opened the meeting as Paulette Balog led as in our flag salute and John Holden gave the 10 count in memory of Al “Blue” Lewis, Gary Cowburn and Mrs. Laudicina, Pat’s mother!
Guest speakers were Randy Gordon & Cletus Seldin who talked about there careers in boxing, which was Outstanding!!!

Randy Gordon & Cletus Seldin will be the Ring 8 guest speakers at its next monthly meeting on Thursday night, February 1st (7 p.m. ET start), at Plattdeutsch Park Restaurant (1132 Hempstead Turnpike) in Franklin Square, New York.
On Sunday, April 29th, 2018, the New York State Boxing Hall of Fame will hold its 7th Annual Induction Ceremonies at the beautiful Russo’s on the Bay, located at 162-45 Cross Bay Blvd. in Howard Beach, New York starting at 12:30 PM. Tickets are priced at $150 per person, $70 per child (under 16).

On a sad note, I was informed by Paulette Balog that Longtime member Pasquale (Pat) Laudicina, pictured here with Renaldo Snipes just lost his mother who was well into her 90’s! Our thoughts and Prayers go out to Pat and all his loved ones!

Boxing writer Sean Nam (UCNLive.com, TheSweetScience.com) presents a rarely-screened documentary that captures a week in the life of young Jose Torres as he gears up for a fight at Sunnyside Garden in Queens, in 1959. In 2017, Nam was the curator of two boxing film programs that played at the historic Anthology Film Archives.
Posted under Meeting NotesNEW YORK (December 11, 2017) – Less than 24 hours after he defeated previously undefeated Guillermo Rigondeaux, WBO Junior Lightweight World Champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist Vasyl “Hi Tech” Lomachenko attended yesterday’s (Sunday, Dec. 9) 31st annual Ring 8 Holiday Event and Awards Ceremony to accept the Ring 8 2017 Muhammad Ali International Fighter of the Year Award.
The gala event was held Russo’s On The Bay in Howard Beach, New York.
Six world champions were in attendance, including three award winners: Lomachenko), International Hall-of-Famer Michael Spinks (Historical Award), and five-time world champion Amanda “The Real Deal” Serrano (New York State Female Fighter of the Year); World champions Vito Antuofermo, Iran Barkley and Luis Collazo showed their support.
“Our awards banquet was one of the best ever,” Ring 8 president Jack Hirsch said. “We are deeply honored that Vasyl Lomachenko attended the day after the biggest fight of his career. His presence created an electric atmosphere, the type that is rarely seen. The other honorees, led by Michael Spinks, made it an afternoon that will always be remembered.”
