Ring 8 Next Meeting, Tuesday, May 17th – Guest Speakers Johnny Turner & Zachary “Zungry” Ochoa

Ring 8 will be having our meeting on Tuesday May 17th, starting at 7 p.m. ET, at O’Neil’s Restaurant in Maspeth, New York. …Our guest speakers will be Johnny Turner & Zachary “Zungry” Ochoa.

Johnny Turner, who fought from 1975 to 1984 and finished with a pro record of 42-6-2.

Johnny appeared in the Academy Award winning picture “Raging Bull,” with Robert DeNiro, which would chronicle the life of troubled middleweight champion Jake LaMotta. Turner would play the part of French boxer Laurent Dauthuille.

Johnny was just Inducted into the New York State Boxing Hall of Fame on May 1st.

Zachary “Zungry” Ochoa
• Fought less than a month ago on Showtime under Premier Boxing Champions as the promoter.
• Faced Brandun Lee who was The Ring Magazine prospect fighter of the year. Brandun was coming off a 15 fighter KO streak which Zachary snapped going the distance of 10 rounds with a unanimous decision for Lee.
• The word prior to the fight was we would get stopped yet we exceeded expectations and received very high praise after the fight including guys like Dan Rafael who praised Zach’s efforts on his podcast the day after.
• Was interviewed on Randy Gordons At The Fights prior to the fight
• Zach has never been knocked down in his professional career. He’s 21-3 with 7 KO’s.
• Has a strong New York buzz
• He was the first boxer to be sponsored by NFT sponsors. Very cool stuff!
• Is Trained by Stephen “Breadman” Edwards from Philly
• Zach left Brooklyn for 9 weeks to train in Philly leaving his family behind
• PBC and Showtime aka Stephen Espinosa assured us we will be back and was impressed with the efforts. Hoping to fight again within 6 months

Ring 8 Pictures & Notes of Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at O’Neill’s Restaurant

Ring 8 had their second meeting of 2022, last night at O’Neill’s Restaurant. So far, we had 3 of the best guest speakers we could ask for.
.
Last month we had Jules Feiler, the 2-time Emmy Award winning television producer who was responsible for Holmes participating in the aforementioned Ring 8 Holiday Event and Awards Ceremony. Feiler is the CEO and Founder of The Pitching Staff Public Relations in New York City, which has also managed public relations in the boxing industry for many fighters. Jules talked on his career as a sports agent that had everyone laughing!

This month we had Melvina Lathan, former boxing judge and the Boxing Commissioner for New York, PLUS we had David Diamante, the famed Ring Announcer who is still recovering from a horrible motorcycle accident.

Melvina talked about her career, how she met her husband, Dr. William Lathan, her mother, father and sisters and brothers. Being that it was Women’s Month, she also talked on several women that she has looked up to over the years.

Dave, also talked about his career and how he got started in the amateurs back at Gleason’s Gym, along with some of the fights he announced all over the World and in a very emotional speech, what he went through and had to overcome just to walk again!

Ring 8 Next Meeting, Tuesday, March 15th – Guest Speaker Melvina Lathan

Ring 8 will be having our meeting on Tuesday March 15th, starting at 7 p.m. ET, at O’Neil’s Restaurant in Maspeth, New York. …Out guest speaker in honor of Womans month will be Former NYS Boxing Chairperson and world-renowned Boxing Judge Melvina Lathan.


We will start serving corned Beef and cabbage, along with Shepherd’s Pie and other dishes in the spirit of Irish Day. we will start serving out buffets at 6 45 pm so we recommend that you arrive a little earlier for parking. The Board will meet at 6:00 pm.

Ring 8 Next Meeting, Tuesday, February 15th – Guest Speaker Jules Feiler

Ring 8’s first 2022 meeting next Tuesday at O’Neil’s Restaurant in Maspeth, NY

NEW YORK (February 8, 2022) — Ring 8’s first monthly meeting of 2022 will be held next Tuesday night (Feb. 15th), starting at 7 p.m. ET, at O’Neil’s Restaurant in Maspeth, New York.

The meeting is the first gathering of members since its highly successful 34th Ring 8 Holiday Event and Awards Ceremony this past December 12th, highlighted by the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the epic Larry Holmes-Gerry Cooney world heavyweight title fight, at Russo’s On The Bay in Howard Beach, New York. have been announced. A record 410 people attended the event.

Special guest speaker is Jules Feiler, the 2-time Emmy Award winning television producer who was responsible for Holmes participating in the aforementioned Ring 8 Holiday Event and Awards Ceremony. Feiler is the CEO and Founder of The Pitching Staff Public Relations in New York City, which has also managed public relations in the boxing industry for many fighters.

Among the items being discussed is the New York State Boxing Hall of Fame (NYSBHOF) awards dinner, which is sponsored by Ring 8, to be held May 1st at Russo’s On The Bay.

“We’ve had tremendous responses from members who are so happy to be attending our first Ring 8 meeting of 2022,” Ring 8 President Bob Duffy said. “They’re anxious to resume Ring 8 activities. We’re excited to have Jules Feiler as the guest speaker to talk about his experiences in boxing.”

Ring 8‘s yearly $30.00 membership dues will be collected, a first in more than 2 years due to the pandemic. Cost for that evening’s dinner is $5.00 for members, $10.00 non-members.

ABOUT RING 8:  Formed in 1954 by an ex-prizefighter, Jack Grebelsky, Ring 8 became the eighth subsidiary of what was then known as the National Veteran Boxers Association — hence, RING “8″ — and today the organization’s motto remains: Boxers Helping Boxers.

RING 8 is fully committed to supporting less fortunate people in the boxing community who may require assistance in terms of paying rent, medical expenses, or whatever justifiable need.

Ring 8 Pictures & Notes of Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at O’Neill’s Restaurant

President Bob Duffy opened the meeting with Paulette leading us in the Flag Salute. President then talked on the Ring 8 Christmas with takes place on Sunday, December 12th at Russo’s on the Bay!

Jack Hirsch talked on the 2022 NY State Boxing Hall of Fame and then named all the NEW Inductees.

Jack also introduced our Guest speaker Ed Post, the President of Spartan Sports.

President Bob Duffy talked about the recent New York State Boxing Hall of Fame which was very successful. There were approx 275 people that attended.

President Duffy talked about our up-coming Holiday Party, which will take place on Sunday, December 12th at Russo’s on the Bay.

Henry Hascup talked about the up-coming New Jersey Boxing Hall of Fame Induction and Award Ceremonies that will take place on November 11th.
