The monthly executive board meeting of the Veteran Boxers Association of NY,  Ring 8, Inc. was held on Tuesday, May 18th, 2010 at the Waterfront Crabhouse in Long Island City, New York.

Board members in attendance:  President, Matt Farrago, V.P. Henny Wallitsch, Lenny Mangiapane, Henry Hascup, Tony Mazzarella,  Paulette Balog, Frank Pena, Keith Sullivan, Tony Di Pippo, Richie O’Neil and John Labate

Our next meeting will be at the Waterfront Crabhouse,  June 15th at 7:00pm.  Board of Directors will meet at 6:00pm.
1. R.I.P. boxers were acknowledged:
Bohumil Nemecek, who won a Gold Medal  in the light- welterweight division”, at the Summer 1960 Olympics in Rome , Italy by staging a minute silence. Bohumil Nemecek was one of Stanislav Janousek boxing trainers and a mentor during part of his amateur boxing career,  while in the military 1966-68, on a boxing team, Ruda Hvezda(Red Star) in Usti nad Labem, Czech Republic , former Czechoslovakia . As pre Bohumil Nemecek’s boxing record, he had altogether 777 amateur fights and lost only 13 fights. He was a 10x boxing champion of the Czech Republic and under his leadership, our team, Ruda Hvezda won the Team National Championship of Czechoslovakia in 1967. He was born on January 2, 1938 and died on Tue May 4, 20010, at age 72 after being hospitalized with a long term illness

The AAIB, Inc. will hold its 41st Annual luncheon on Sunday, May 23, 2010 at 12.00 noon at The Edward and Mary Doyle Center , Teamsters Local 456, 160 North Central Avenue, Elmsford , NY 10523-1913 .

Awards will be presented to world champion boxers and members of the medical, official and media of the ring game.  Additionally, we will be honoring Iraqi and Afghanistan Veterans, along with our scholarship recipients.

The guests expected to attend are:

3.  A documentary on Jake LaMotta was shot at the Ring 8 meeting
“Hi, Guys. Stephen Altobello again. Just a reminder that I’ll be there this Tuesday night’s dinner making a short documentary about Jake La Motta. If you knew him, fought him, admired him, or had issues with him, come find me. I’d love to talk to you. I’ll be shooting the interviews AFTER the dinner, so I hope you can stick around. Also, if you bring along one of your posed fight pictures, I’ll get a shot of that for my doc and give it back to you before the night is through.”
