Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, May 15th at O’Neill’s Restaurant located at 64-21 53rd Drive in Maspeth, New York starting at 7 PM
Mark Breland, who many people consider the Greatest American Amateur Boxer ever finishing his Amateur career with a record of 110-1. Mark won five consecutive New York Daily News Golden Gloves titles, in 23 bouts in the New York Daily News Golden Gloves Mark was 23-0 with 22 knockouts, 15 in the first round. and then finished his Amateur career winning a GOLD MEDAL in the 1984 Olympic Games.
Mark didn’t do too bad as a pro either finishing with a record of 35-3-1 with 25 KO’s, while winning the World Boxing Association World welterweight title twice.
- Retired with a record of 6-2-1 (6 KOs) in world title fights.
- Retired with a record of 3-3-1 (2 KOs) against former, current and future world champions:
- Won against Steve Little, Rafael Pineda, Lloyd Honeyghan.
- Drew with Marlon Starling.
Henny Wallitsch the former Ring 8 President who fought as a Heavyweight from 1957 to 1966. He fought some of the largest Heavyweights of his era, including future WBA Heavyweight Champion 6’6″ Ernie Terrell, 6′ 9½″ James J. Beattie (twice), and the 1960 Olympic Heavyweight Gold Medal winner 6’2″ Franco de Piccoli. His biggest win was over Sweden undefeated Champion Lennart Risberg at the Polo Grounds on the under card of the 2nd Floyd Patterson/Ingemar Johansson fight. Henny was also a sparring partner for Both Patterson, Johansson, Jerry Quarry as well as Charlie Norkus Sr.
